Austrian authorities have discontinued use of AstraZeneca’s vaccine after the illness of one person and death of another were reported after getting vaccinated for COVID-19.
A 35-year-old woman developed an acute lung disease called a pulmonary embolism after getting the AstraZeneca vaccine shot. Another 49-year-old woman died after getting vaccinated.
As per the reports by APA news agency, both women worked at the Zwettl clinic as nurses.
“The Federal Office for Safety in Health Care (BASG) has received two reports in a temporal connection with a vaccination from the same batch of the AstraZeneca vaccine in the district clinic of Zwettl” in Lower Austria province, it said.
“Currently, there is no evidence of a causal relationship with the vaccination,” BASG said.
BASG said blood clotting wasn’t among the known side effects of the vaccine; it is pursuing its investigation vigorously to completely rule out any possible link.
“As a precautionary measure, the remaining stocks of the affected vaccine batch are no longer being issued or vaccinated,” it added.
An AstraZeneca spokesman said: “There have been no confirmed serious adverse events associated with the vaccine,” adding that all batches are subject to strict and rigorous quality controls.
AstraZeneca also said it was in contact with Austrian authorities and would fully support the investigation.
A Polish doctor recently recorded a video of himself getting the experimental COVID-19 vaccine. He mocked the critics who questioned the efficacy of the vaccine while getting jabbed. Ironically, the doctor died just days later, although the cause of his death was reported to be heart failure.

Recently, the deaths of elderly who recovered from COVID-19, but died after the vaccine was administered, have raised questions.
Moreover, a group of researchers in the The Lancet medical journal have warned that Covid-19 vaccines currently in development could increase the risk of acquiring HIV, potentially leading to an increase in infections.
Australia had to scrap its billion dollars coronavirus vaccine agreement after participants tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, American federal officials are investigating COVID-19 vaccine recipients who developed the rare blood disorder thrombocytopenia, with at least several cases resulting in death.
