Musk To Charge Twitter Blue Checks $20 Per Month Will Give 90 Day Grace Period

If a Sunday article from The Verge is accurate, Elon Musk is poised to change the whole dynamic on Twitter.

Internal emails and sources with knowledge of the situation claim that Musk will soon begin charging $20 per month for “blue check” verification credentials.

According to the concept, verified users would receive 90 days to sign up for the service before they lose their blue checkmark and, in many instances, their standing as “respected thought leaders.”

According to the reports, project team members were informed on Sunday that they had until November 7 to implement the feature or risk being sacked.

Musk has been clear in the months leading up to his acquisition that he wanted to revamp how Twitter verifies accounts and handles bots. On Sunday, he tweeted: “The whole verification process is being revamped right now.”

Platformer’s Casey Newton first reported that Twitter was considering charging for verification.

Despite being “Chief Twit” for less than a week, Musk has already made alterations at Twitter, ousting the former CEO Parag Agrawal and other top executives (including the wrongthink czar Vijaya Gadde), who might not get their golden parachutes. Engineers working for Musk also modified Twitter’s homepage for logged-out users.

Additionally, it would be interesting to see how many individuals are ready to contribute $240 year to the company’s “blue check” program, despite the fact that advertisers have been threatening to leave Twitter left and right due to Musk’s support for free speech.
