Naturally Immune People At Little Risk Of Reinfection Than Vaccinated From COVID-19 Finds New Study

Last week, a study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine that suggests that people who have already been infected and recovered from Covid-19, are naturally immune to Covid and at low risk of reinfection and contracting the disease again.

In Qatar, researchers examined a cohort of more than 353,000 people using a national database. This database has information about patients with polymerase-chain-reaction-confirmed infections.

They contracted Covid-19 between Feb 2020 and April 2020. Reinfections were counted if a person got infected three months after their first infection.

Researchers excluded approx 87,500 vaccinated people and found that those who recovered with Covid-19 are immune and had low risk of severe cases of the Covid-19 infection. Only 1,304 reinfections were counted.

As per the study, the odds of severe disease were 0.1 times that of primary infection.  No death cases were found among those who got reinfected.
