Internationally loved soccer clubs, big NBA franchises, and well-known MLB teams are some of the most valuable sports organizations in the world. The National Football League (NFL) is perhaps the best of all of them, though.
The Denver Broncos set a record for the most expensive franchise buy when they were sold in June 2022 for $4.65 billion. However, if other teams were to sell, they might fetch an even higher asking price.

NFL Teams by Value
Forbes used enterprise values—total club ownership plus net debt—and took into account each team’s revenue from stadiums to determine team values. This includes non-NFL income that goes to the owners of each team, but it excludes the value of the stadium’s real estate.
The conclusion? NFL franchises are expected to be worth an average of $4.47 billion in 2022, a 28% rise from the previous year.
The Dallas Cowboys are the most valuable sports team in the world, with an estimated value of $8 billion, according to the rankings.
Due to extensive sponsorship deals, including an estimated $220 million in stadium advertising and sponsorship money, they were the first team to produce over $1 billion in yearly revenue.
This is especially impressive considering that just over 70% of football-related revenue is actually split among NFL teams. According to Forbes, the Cowboys have had the most success leveraging their stadium and brand to increase outside revenue.
Most Valuable NFL Teams by Conference
In order to emphasise the financial advantage one conference has over the other, Truman also divided the value of NFL teams by conference.
In 1970, following the NFL’s merging with the rival American Football League, the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC) were established. The conferences have changed and rearranged over time as the league has grown, and as of 2022 there will be 4 divisions, each with 4 teams and 16 teams.
The average valuation of NFC teams was about $500 million greater than that of the AFC. Additionally, it has five of the top six most valuable teams, with the only AFC team at the top being the New England Patriots (#2) in the rankings.
However, with the most recent record sale of an NFL franchise (the Denver Broncos) occurring in the AFC and more likely high-profile relocations and sales on the horizon, the landscape of NFL team values may soon change once more.
