Since January 2021, Ryan Samsel, a political prisoner from the January 6 events, has been in jail without a trial.
During these two and a half years, he was taken to 17 different places. Since he got arrested in January 2021, Ryan has suffered beatings, abuse, torture, and neglect.
Recently, the media got some photos of Ryan Samsel’s prison cell at the FDC in Philadelphia. The cell was very small, like a closet, and there was a light on all the time. Inside the cell, there was a thin blue mattress, but no sheets, blankets, or clothes. He was kept in this cell continuously for five months.
The photos are truly shocking, and it’s important to realize that this is happening in America today.
Ryan stated in a conversation this week, “I was kept in … a hard cell. And in that particular cell about five, six months. I even told you what was happening is the judge was actually calling, trying to get in contact with me because I wasn’t in a named cell. They were missing me and they were saying I wasn’t showing up to court. They were saying I wasn’t showing up to medical. But they were pretty much keeping me in there… Like I said, it was cold, the light was on, there’s zero window. And that followed me from Virginia. When I was in Virginia, it was the same exact conditions.”
Ryan highlighted the comparable case in Virginia, “It was Central Regional Virginia Jail (CVRJ). I was kept in and they called it booking hard cell, which is you get zero phone, zero commissary, zero clothing because they think that you’re going to hang yourself and you’re on constant surveillance. You’re under surveillance constantly. The light has to be on 24/7. You’re locked in a cell. There is no getting out. The windows in Virginia were covered by a black mat, so you weren’t able to see. And it’s constant nothing. It’s deprivation of everything.”
According to what Ryan shared, he’s not allowed to have books, letters, photos, or anything personal. He had to use a yellow bucket as his toilet.
Ryan thinks the government wanted him to confess about the Proud Boys, so they tormented him for months. They even hurt him many times and kept him isolated, so he couldn’t talk to anyone.
This kind of suffering is occurring in the United States today.

Ryan is not the only one going through this. Many people arrested after the events of January 6 have been kept in terrible conditions for months. Some have received very harsh punishments for minor offenses. This is a dark part of American history that needs to be faced.
