CJ Harris, the former “American Idol” finalist whose abrupt death surprised friends and relatives, died from a heart attack, according to medical officials.
According to the Walker County Coroner, an autopsy is not required because Harris’ official cause of death was identified by medical staff as a heart attack, reports TMZ.
CJ was rushed to a local hospital by ambulance in Jasper, Alabama, on Sunday night following what friends and family members thought was a heart attack. Unfortunately, he did not survive.

CJ was a competitor on season 13 of the hit singing competition series, getting it to the top six in 2014.
The judges of the competition gave him a lot of praise and attention for his performance of “Soulshine” by the Allman Brothers Band.
He shared the stage with Darius Rucker at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry following the performance. Even during the season 13 tour of “American Idol,” which included the top 10 finalists, CJ entertained the crowd.
He was only 31 years old.
