ALERT: Ship Carrying Missile & Arms Seized At Kandla Port

COSCO specialized cargo ship DA CUI YUN arrived at Deendayal Port, Kandla, western India, from China, on Feb 3, and remains at port since arrival. Her next port of call is Karachi, Pakistan, reported Mikhail Voytenko of the Maritime Bulletin, the Maritime and Crimean Shipping News.

According to local reports, Customs and national security bodies are searching the ship since Feb 8, because there are suspicions the ship may carry arms, it was even said, that some missile-like machinery was spotted. As of morning Feb 11, nothing suspicious or illegal has been found, so far.

The cargo ship belongs to a Chinese shipping and logistics company COSCO sanctioned by the Americans last year because of which 145,000 tonnes of Indian oil from Mexico was stuck at sea. As GreatGameIndia reported, last September the US imposed sanctions on several Chinese companies and their top officials for shipping Iranian oil, putting dozens of supertankers off limits to western energy traders. As a direct impact of the blacklisting of Chinese shipping company Cosco, 145,000 tonnes of Indian Oil was put at risk.

Recently. there has been a spike in suspicious activities at the western coast of India. Just a couple of months back in December two military-grade aircraft launching gears meant for ‘Royal Saudi Land Forces’ illegally landed at a private port in Kutch district of Gujarat through Pakistan, sending security forces into a tizzy.

The containers were shown as ’empty’. But when customs officers at Mundra port opened them, they found aircraft launching gears – essentially used in aircraft carriers to assist takeoff of jets from the deck.

Security sources said the military-grade aircraft launching gears found at the Mundra port wre manufactured by only two corporate giants, Boeing (based in the US) and Airbus (headquartered in Europe).

What raised eyebrows in the customs and other security agencies such as the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) was why the two containers were not offloaded like some others after berthing the Kyoto Express – a carrier owned by Hapag-Lloyd Aktiengesellschaft, Hamburg in Germany – at Jeddah port?

The consignment was meant for the Royal Saudi Land Forces. The Saudis, however, do not have an aircraft carrier in their fleet.

Earlier on May 10th, 2019 at around 4pm, the Indian Air Force radars detected an Antonov AN-12 aircraft crossing into Indian airspace from an unauthorized point near Gujarat.

The aircraft was forced to land at Jaipur airport where it was checked by the IB, Air Force, CISF, and Jaipur Police. As reported by the media, the aircraft was allowed to leave after that as Air Force sources played down the incident. The mysterious cargo of the Antonov aircraft remains unknown to this day.

In yet another incident of a breach of national security, INS Vikrant, India’s first Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC) was hit by an espionage attack where hard disks and a multi function control (MFC) processor were stolen from the ship docked at the Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) believed to be containing India’s Naval Warfare Strategy.
