The documents in question are believed to contain Hamas's military strategies, which were discovered by Israeli military intelligence in Gaza. However, these documents were allegedly tampered with by people close to Netanyahu’s office and then leaked to two major media outlets: Germany's Bild newspaper and the UK's Jewish Chronicle. This happened just as Israel and other parties were trying to negotiate a ceasefire for Gaza back in September 2024.
The leaks caused a massive stir. The documents were manipulated to make it seem like Hamas had plans to smuggle Israeli hostages out of Gaza and into countries like Egypt, Iran, or Yemen. This added fuel to an already tense situation and made it look like the Israeli government was facing an even greater threat from Hamas.
