Satellite Images: Is Russia About To Abandon Its Strategic Bases In Syria?

New satellite images have revealed a surprising development: Russia is pulling back its military forces from key bases in Syria, including the Khmeimim Air Base and Tartus Naval Base. This move is sparking serious questions about Russia’s future in the region and its plans for these highly strategic locations.

What the Images Show

These fresh satellite images, taken by Maxar Technologies, show that Russia is withdrawing a significant amount of military equipment from its bases in Syria. The most recent photos of Khmeimim, dated December 17, show rows of vehicles and equipment, including cargo planes, lined up at the base. This suggests that they might be preparing to load up these materials and move them out of the region. What's more, older images from December 15 reveal that Russian air defense systems, like the S-400, have already been completely dismantled, further indicating the drawdown of Russia’s military presence.
