Russia To Launch New Gas Pipeline To China

Russia has started working on a huge new gas pipeline to China, which will also pass through Kazakhstan. This pipeline is expected to deliver up to 45 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas every year, with China set to receive 35 bcm, and Kazakhstan getting the rest.

The project is extremely important for all three countries. Russia and China are already close economic partners, and this new pipeline is expected to strengthen their energy ties even more. It’s not just about transporting gas – it’s a symbol of growing cooperation between the two countries, especially as Russia faces tough Western sanctions.

The Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Aleksandr Novak, told Russia 24 that the project is officially underway. Right now, teams are working on the technical and financial details of the pipeline, and talks are ongoing to finalize the plans.

Kazakhstan, which will host part of the pipeline’s infrastructure, has shown full support for the project. Kazakh Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev emphasized how important the pipeline will be for their northern regions, where gas supplies are critical.

This project is just one part of a much larger energy agreement between Russia and China. Earlier this month, Russia’s energy giant Gazprom set a new record for gas deliveries to China via another pipeline, the Power of Siberia. Starting in 2025, Russia will supply 38 bcm of gas to China every year through this route as well.

This new pipeline, combined with other energy projects, will deepen Russia and China’s partnership and help them secure more energy independence from the West. With growing trade between these two countries, which is expected to top $200 billion this year, this pipeline marks just the beginning of even stronger ties in the future.
