Russia Orders UK Defense Attaché Out Of The Country In Tit-For-Tat

Russia’s foreign ministry has revealed that it has ordered the UK defense attaché out of the country in a tit-for-tat move after the UK expelled Moscow’s defense attaché this month, alleging he was ‘an undeclared military intelligence officer.’

Russia retaliated on Thursday, ordering the British defense attaché to leave the nation in retaliation for the UK’s most recent diplomatic actions against Moscow.

“The defense attaché at the British Embassy in Moscow, A. T. Coghill, has been declared persona non grata. He must leave the territory of the Russian Federation within a week,” Russia’s foreign ministry said.

It comes after the UK for the first time this month expelled Moscow’s defense attaché from its territory because he was “an undeclared military intelligence officer.” Russia denounced it as a fabrication, and its top diplomat for military matters was compelled to depart.

Now, the Kremlin is protesting about London’s recent “unfriendly,” “anti-Russian,” and politically motivated measures, and threatening additional diplomatic escalation.

Interior Minister James Cleverly recently informed parliament that several Russian-owned properties will lose their diplomatic status and protections. This is part of a quiet pressure campaign that the British government has been waging against Russian diplomatic facilities and personnel in the UK.

Cleverly claimed that Russian sites in Sussex and London will have their diplomatic immunity revoked. He informed parliament that “we believe these sites have been used for intelligence purposes.”

Numerous fresh allegations have surfaced linking specific Russian-led attacks on UK infrastructure. For instance, The Telegraph reports that “Last week, a British man was charged with an arson attack in London and accused by prosecutors of working for Wagner Group, the Russian paramilitary organization.”

Recently, GreatGameIndia reported that, according to a 17-page paper revealed by the Wall Street Journal, Boris Johnson sabotaged a Russia-Ukraine peace deal.
