Zimin is a former colonel from the Federal Security Service who was in charge of the briefcase containing Russia’s nuclear controls, which is usually carried by the Kremlin leader.

He is believed to have served in this capacity as an aide to former President Boris Yeltsin.

Zimin remained in the security service, eventually advancing to the rank of colonel under his successor, Vladimir Putin.

However, his specific role is unknown, and just one image of Zimin exists.

He was discovered with bullet injuries in the kitchen of his apartment in Krasnogorsk, Moscow area.

Zimin was discovered by his brother, who was apparently in the restroom at the time of the shooting on Monday.

He was laying in a puddle of blood with a head wound, and an Izh 79-9TM pistol was close.

His common law wife, a medic, was gone at the time assisting the injured from Putin’s campaign in Ukraine.

According to Moskovsky Komsomolets, the incident occurred while Zimin was under criminal investigation for possible bribery after entering the customs agency in a prominent position.

The secret briefcase is said to hold the launch system for the Kremlin’s strategic weapons.

The bag, which has a unique key code, is routinely monitored around the clock and entirely controls Moscow’s nuclear weapons.

It is supposedly overseen by an armed security officer who travels with Putin everywhere he goes.

The briefcase, known as Cheget in Russian, was created in the early 1980s and was first presented to the public in 2019, with its contents being examined up close on television.

Putin is renowned to mock the West by requiring that the officer bearing the nuclear codes be seen alongside him.

He did this in April, while in Moscow for the funeral of ultra-nationalist leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky.

The apparent presence of a prominent military official with the bag is regarded to be a scary indication that warmongering Putin may use catastrophic nuclear bombs.

According to local news media, while the case is frequently seen in the clutches of an assistant accompanying Putin, there are actually three in total.

Each is available to the Russian Federation’s three highest-ranking authorities.

According to onlookers, the most unique part of the briefcase is that the launch button is white rather than red, as is widely assumed.
