Poland has ordered the closure of the Russian consulate in Poznan and expelled its staff. The announcement came from Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski on Tuesday. This decision follows the recent arrest of a person suspected of being involved in sabotage activities in the city of Wroclaw, which is about 180 kilometers away from Poznan.
Sikorski claims that Russian intelligence is behind the alleged sabotage attempts. He stated, “Russia is waging a war against Ukraine and a hybrid war against Western countries, including Poland.” These strong words suggest that Poland feels threatened by Russia's actions, which they believe are designed to destabilize the region.
Despite the serious accusations, Sikorski did not provide any concrete evidence to support his claims against Russia. It remains unclear how a consulate in Poznan could be connected to a suspected plot in Wroclaw. This raises questions and intrigue about the actual links between these events.
