Marius Borg Hoiby, the son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been arrested in Oslo on suspicion of rape. The 27-year-old man, who was detained late on Monday, is facing a serious charge: he is accused of having sexual intercourse with someone who was unconscious or unable to resist.

Marius is not a royal titleholder, as he was born from Mette-Marit’s previous relationship before she married Crown Prince Haakon, the heir to the Norwegian throne. Although he does not have official duties, his connection to the royal family has made this case a huge topic of discussion.
The police have not revealed exactly when the alleged crime took place, but they have confirmed that the victim was unable to resist. Hoiby has denied the accusations, but he is cooperating with the authorities. His lawyer, Oyvind Bratlien, stated that Marius wants to explain himself, but he is still facing the extended charge.
This isn’t the first time Marius has been in trouble with the law. In August, he was arrested after allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend in her Oslo apartment. There were reports of a knife being found stuck in the wall of her bedroom at the time of the attack. He was initially charged with causing bodily harm and criminal damage but was released. Marius was also arrested again in September for violating a restraining order.
The latest arrest came when he was with the woman from the August incident. Police took him into custody around 11 pm and now, he is being held in a detention center while the investigation continues.
The woman involved in the rape case is reportedly struggling, and her lawyer has stated that it was the police, not the woman herself, who brought the charges forward. Meanwhile, Marius’s family, including his mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, is facing a lot of media attention due to these troubling events.
Marius was raised by Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Crown Prince Haakon, along with their two younger children. After his September arrest, he was reportedly banned from visiting his mother and stepfather’s home. Mette-Marit’s life has also been under scrutiny, especially since she was a single mother when she met the crown prince. Her first partner, Marius’s father, Morten Borg, has a criminal history, which adds another layer of controversy to this royal family’s story.
This latest development has thrown the royal family into the spotlight once again, as Marius’s legal troubles continue to make headlines.
