Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus has recently been cleared of corruption charges brought against him by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). This acquittal comes just days after he was also cleared in a separate case involving labor law violations.
This important news follows a major political shift in Bangladesh. Three days before his acquittal, an interim government was formed, with Professor Yunus being appointed as the chief adviser. This government came into power after the previous prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, stepped down following a massive student-led protest on August 5. Alongside Professor Yunus, Nurjahan Begum, who was also accused in the corruption case, was named an adviser in the interim government.
