Mexico Accuses US Of Undermining Elections With $5 Million NGO Scheme Via USAID

One after the other, heads of nations are accusing the US of either meddling in their elections, offering a secret deal to cede power or toppling the government itself. After Hasina refused the deal, Bangladesh was toppled for strategic Saint Martin island. Maduro said NO and now Venezuela is in chaos. Color Revolution is being planned in Serbia as we write. A major diplomatic drama is heating up between Mexico and the United States. Mexico’s outgoing President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has raised serious allegations against the US, accusing it of secretly funding Mexican opposition groups through USAID programs. This accusation has sparked a heated conflict between the two neighboring countries.

Here’s what’s going on:

Money and Influence:

Obrador claims that the US has been using its aid agency, USAID, to funnel nearly $5 million to groups like Mexicans Against Corruption and Impunity (MCCI) since 2018. This agency, founded during the Cold War, is known for its controversial role in promoting American policies abroad. Obrador says that these funds are meant to sway Mexican politics and influence upcoming elections.

A Diplomatic Protest:

In response to these claims, Mexico’s Foreign Ministry has sent a formal complaint to the US. Obrador has even decided to write directly to US President Joe Biden to express his concerns.

Political Shake-Up:

Despite these attempts by the US to influence Mexican politics, the elections didn’t go as planned for Washington. President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum, who takes office on October 1, has promised to continue the policies of her predecessor, Obrador.

Obrador’s Defiance:

Obrador, known as AMLO, has been pushing back hard against US interference. Last year, he rejected calls from some US lawmakers for military action against drug cartels in Mexico. He also refused to let the Pentagon track a Chinese balloon through Mexican airspace, which the US claimed was a spy device. Moreover, Obrador has criticized the US Department of Defense for spying on Mexico and has vowed to restrict military information sharing.

Trade and Diplomacy:

The tension extends beyond politics. Obrador has linked his cooperation with Biden on border issues to lifting US sanctions on Cuba and Venezuela, both of which are important trading partners for Mexico. Additionally, Mexico has been reducing its imports of genetically modified corn from the US to boost local production, leading to a trade dispute.

Global Stance:

Mexico has also been standing firm against US and EU efforts to isolate Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and has refused to join NATO’s stance on the Ukraine conflict. Instead, Mexico has increased its trade with Russia by nearly 10% this year.

Mexico’s pushback against US influence is causing significant waves. With accusations of interference, trade disputes, and a refusal to follow US foreign policy, the relationship between Mexico and the United States is more strained than ever. The unfolding drama highlights Mexico’s growing determination to assert its independence on the global stage.
