The Democratic National Convention (DNC) was supposed to be a grand celebration, full of excitement and star power. However, it turned out to be much more unsettling than anticipated.

By the time Kamala Harris stepped up to speak, we had been told repeatedly by big names like the Obamas, Oprah, and the Clintons that she was the perfect choice for the next president. But after all this hype, many of us were left wondering why she was so highly praised.
It felt less like a typical convention and more like an elaborate ceremony to make Harris look great, almost like a scene from a dystopian novel. Just a few months ago, Harris was seen as a major weak spot for the Democrats—unprepared and not very popular. But now, the narrative was completely different, almost as if she had been magically transformed into a beloved leader.

Nancy Pelosi, a key figure in the Democratic Party, had been vague and dismissive about Harris’s qualifications. Her reluctance to fully endorse Harris was notable. Meanwhile, Willie Brown, Harris’s former mentor, publicly criticized her as being disliked and not serious about her work.
In the past, Harris faced criticism from her own staff for being a poor boss and lacking preparation. Yet at the DNC, we heard only praises about her kindness and compassion, which felt disingenuous given her track record.

The media portrayed the DNC as if Harris was a groundbreaking candidate. Her promises included price controls on groceries and financial help for first-time homebuyers, but these seemed more like political slogans than concrete plans. Some proposals, like allowing undocumented migrants to buy homes with state loans, felt extreme and out of touch.

The media’s coverage was heavily skewed, failing to address Harris’s shortcomings and focusing instead on creating a positive image of her. Despite the impressive roster of celebrities and speakers at the event, there was a noticeable lack of genuine substance and honest discussion about Harris’s capabilities.
The DNC’s focus was on promoting Harris as a joyful and hopeful figure, despite her absence from interviews and public appearances. The party seemed divided, with tensions simmering between different factions, including the Bidens and the Obamas. This discord was masked by the façade of unity presented at the convention.

In the end, the event seemed more like a grand distraction than a meaningful presentation of Harris as a leader. While the convention was filled with glitz and star power, it felt like an elaborate show hiding real issues and conflicts within the Democratic Party.
