One key researcher from WIV, Zhou Yusen, applied for a COVID-19 vaccine patent months before the virus’s full genetic code was released. Zhou died in May 2020 under mysterious circumstances – he reportedly fell from the roof of the WIV. This raised even more questions about what was happening at the lab.

Despite all this, the official report to President Biden in 2021 largely ignored the evidence pointing to a lab leak. The scientists involved were told to keep quiet, and the theory of the virus jumping from animals to humans became the dominant story.
