According to the Newsbuster research, Soros yearly sponsors hundreds of media, humanitarian, and social justice organizations, giving him “massive power over the information in international politics” and the ability to “mold public opinion on practically every continent and in many languages,” which shows how much George Soros’ propaganda machine has corrupted the media.

A massive network of media and activist organizations that get millions of dollars a year in funding from billionaire George Soros has been revealed by a new investigation by the US-based Newsbusters (pdf below). The publication describes itself as a “rapid-response vehicle for documenting, exposing, and neutralizing liberal bias in the media” on its website.
The Hungarian tycoon’s huge global impact is well known, and Soros himself has frequently acknowledged it, including in boasts about his work in Ukraine. During the 2014 US-orchestrated Maidan coup in Kyiv, Soros openly acknowledged his role in its promotion, saying: “I set up a foundation in Ukraine before Ukraine became independent of Russia [sic]. The foundation has been functioning ever since. And it played an important part in events now.”
The arc of history “doesn’t follow its own course [and] needs to be bent,” Soros said in a detailed interview with the New York Times in October 2019; he added that he was “engaged in trying to bend it in the right direction.”

Who gets the money?
Project Syndicate is the largest Hungarian-funded misinformation outlet, according to Newsbusters. It bills itself as “the world’s opinion page” and claims to have a “global audience” that includes “over 140 heads of state” in addition to “prominent politicians, policymakers, scholars, corporate leaders, and civic activists from six continents.” He funded the outlet with at least $1.5 million between 2016 and 2020. During this time, it vigorously pushed for worldwide climate lockdowns, abortion, and criticism of Israel.
The Poynter Institute, which Newsbusters denounces as “a global Soros-backed Ministry of Truth,” is likewise at the top of this list. During the same time frame, it received $492,000. With the help of this funding, Poynter was able to support its International Fact-Checking Network, which unites 100 purported “fact-checkers.” The network, which aggressively collaborates with significant social media platforms to advance their operations and includes the contentious PolitiFact, censors alternative viewpoints and perspectives.
According to Newsbusters, these projects actually do little more than censor people’s views on things like abortion, transgenderism, and COVID-19. The article also notes that substantial academic research suggests that fact-checking does not halt the spread of misleading material online, which raises concerns about why so many businesses and affluent people invest so much money in these organizations in the first place.
From 2016 to 2020, openDemocracy, based in the UK, also earned $1,633,457. The website receives over 11 million views annually, publishes in several languages, and has its content included in numerous newspapers and periodicals throughout the world.
Soros does not only support content producers, though. His foundation aids a wide range of social justice campaigners, many of whom go on to gain media and online influence. For instance, he promised to donate $100 million to radical feminism over the course of the following five years in July 2021.
Organizations that get money secure significant news coverage for the events and activities they plan on their dime and shape public opinion in the process. Soros has made it clear that he wants to increase the representation of women, transgender persons, and those who identify as gender non-conforming in positions of leadership in politics and government.
Despite the fact that the tycoon’s foundations, network, and individual donations may seem insignificant based on their size, the whole amount of financial assistance over the entire network of nearly 300 organizations is highly significant.
How does this propaganda network operate?
The Newsbusters report provides numerous examples of how these purportedly independent news organizations not only produce pieces that support US government positions but also have an impact on White House officials’ words and policies, as well as frequently propagate inaccurate information.
The Biden administration declared in the middle of 2022 that the nation was not, in fact, in a recession despite having two consecutive quarters of negative growth, which is the precise definition of a recession.
Following this statement, Harvard economist Jeffrey Frankel wrote a Project Syndicate post in which he claimed that even though official estimates indicated two-quarters of negative GDP, “it does not necessarily mean that the US has entered a recession.” The Soros-connected Politifact then released a “fact-check” stating the Biden administration hadn’t altered the definition of recession days after the White House denied the US was in one.
Matt Palumbo, the author of the book The Man Behind the Curtain: Inside the Secret Network of George Soros, was consulted by Newsbusters for its article. He claimed that “putting a filter on what we can see” in the general public is “one of the biggest consequences” of Soros’s sponsorship and effective control of major media outlets.
He influences journalists at highly regarded Western newspapers like The New York Times, Washington Post, CBS, CNN, and ABC in addition to smaller news outfits.
According to a source with knowledge of the discussions, Koch and Soros’s operatives hosted a secret meeting plotting to revive the Iran nuclear deal.
The assets listed for Soros in the Newsbusters article, which Palumbo supported, aid in shielding him from scrutiny “as reporters see him as an ally, not a target for investigation.”
That’s going to influence your coverage. Just type in Soros’ name in any of the major liberal publications he’s linked to and see how they cover him,” Palumbo assesses.
According to him, Soros “can create any impression” he wants about any subject thanks to his influence, including the fallacious claim that any criticism of him is anti-Semitic.
“If they’re ever covering him in a negative way, it’s framed as if his critics are the bad guys for noticing.…but because it’s convenient for them on the left, they can do that and the media goes along with it,” Palumbo explained.
Soros’ latest project
Marianna Mazzucato, an economist, published an opinion piece in 2020 on Project Syndicate. According to her, the world should test “climate lockdowns,” a brand-new and unproven scientific idea, to stop global warming if Earth’s population was not ready to accept a “green economic transformation” with genuinely revolutionary implications for human rights and citizens’ daily lives. It was claimed that government actions to the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated their viability.
“The world is approaching a tipping point on climate change, when protecting the future of civilization will require dramatic interventions. In the near future, the world may need to resort to lockdowns again – this time to tackle a climate emergency,” Mazzucato, whose research was funded by none other than Soros, insisted.
The COVID-19 pandemic, according to Soros, was a “revolutionary moment when the range of possibilities is much greater than in normal times,” and “what is inconceivable in normal times becomes not only possible but actually happens” because “people are disoriented and scared,” he told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica in the same year.
