A massive network of media and activist organizations that get millions of dollars a year in funding from billionaire George Soros has been revealed by a new investigation by the US-based Newsbusters (pdf below). The publication describes itself as a “rapid-response vehicle for documenting, exposing, and neutralizing liberal bias in the media” on its website.
The Hungarian tycoon’s huge global impact is well known, and Soros himself has frequently acknowledged it, including in boasts about his work in Ukraine. During the 2014 US-orchestrated Maidan coup in Kyiv, Soros openly acknowledged his role in its promotion, saying: “I set up a foundation in Ukraine before Ukraine became independent of Russia [sic]. The foundation has been functioning ever since. And it played an important part in events now.”
The arc of history “doesn’t follow its own course [and] needs to be bent,” Soros said in a detailed interview with the New York Times in October 2019; he added that he was “engaged in trying to bend it in the right direction.”

Project Syndicate is the largest Hungarian-funded misinformation outlet, according to Newsbusters. It bills itself as “the world’s opinion page” and claims to have a “global audience” that includes “over 140 heads of state” in addition to “prominent politicians, policymakers, scholars, corporate leaders, and civic activists from six continents.” He funded the outlet with at least $1.5 million between 2016 and 2020. During this time, it vigorously pushed for worldwide climate lockdowns, abortion, and criticism of Israel.
The Poynter Institute, which Newsbusters denounces as “a global Soros-backed Ministry of Truth,” is likewise at the top of this list. During the same time frame, it received $492,000. With the help of this funding, Poynter was able to support its International Fact-Checking Network, which unites 100 purported “fact-checkers.” The network, which aggressively collaborates with significant social media platforms to advance their operations and includes the contentious PolitiFact, censors alternative viewpoints and perspectives.
According to Newsbusters, these projects actually do little more than censor people’s views on things like abortion, transgenderism, and COVID-19. From 2016 to 2020, openDemocracy, based in the UK, also earned $1,633,457. The website receives over 11 million views annually, publishes in several languages, and has its content included in numerous newspapers and periodicals throughout the world.
Soros does not only support content producers, though. His foundation aids a wide range of social justice campaigners, many of whom go on to gain media and online influence. For instance, he promised to donate $100 million to radical feminism over the course of the following five years in July 2021.

He influences journalists at highly regarded Western newspapers like The New York Times, Washington Post, CBS, CNN, and ABC in addition to smaller news outfits.

According to her, the world should test “climate lockdowns,” a brand-new and unproven scientific idea, to stop global warming if Earth’s population was not ready to accept a “green economic transformation” with genuinely revolutionary implications for human rights and citizens’ daily lives. It was claimed that government actions to the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated their viability.
“The world is approaching a tipping point on climate change, when protecting the future of civilization will require dramatic interventions. In the near future, the world may need to resort to lockdowns again – this time to tackle a climate emergency,” Mazzucato, whose research was funded by none other than Soros, insisted.
The COVID-19 pandemic, according to Soros, was a “revolutionary moment when the range of possibilities is much greater than in normal times,” and “what is inconceivable in normal times becomes not only possible but actually happens” because “people are disoriented and scared,” he told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica in the same year.
