Ex-IMF Chief Reveals: U.S. Plotting Against BRICS Behind The Scenes

Aleksei Mozhin, former Executive Director for Russia at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has come forward with a bold claim: the United States and Western allies are putting intense pressure on the BRICS countries—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—to keep them from gaining too much power and independence on the world stage. Mozhin, in his last interview before stepping down from his IMF post, shared these insights with Russian news outlet Sputnik, casting light on a hidden diplomatic struggle.

Ex-IMF Chief Reveals: U.S. Plotting Against BRICS Behind The Scenes 1

“They – especially the U.S. – are putting a lot of effort into keeping the BRICS nations under control,” Mozhin revealed, adding that BRICS countries are facing enormous pressure behind the scenes. The West, according to Mozhin, is doing everything it can to hold back BRICS from becoming too strong. But why?

Western countries, he suggests, are secretly worried about how closely BRICS countries are working together. In public, these Western nations claim they’re not concerned and that their bilateral relations with BRICS members are great. But Mozhin calls this a lie. “They’re hiding their true feelings,” he said, pointing to the West’s real fear that BRICS might just reshape the global power structure if they keep up their united front.

But it’s not just words. According to Mozhin, Washington has been trying to sway the BRICS members directly, using its embassies to create friction and limit how closely BRICS nations can collaborate. It’s an ongoing campaign aimed at preventing any alliance that could challenge Western influence.

In fact, BRICS is expanding faster than ever. In 2024, Russia took over the BRICS presidency and introduced new members: Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates. With nine nations now in BRICS, the alliance is hosting over 200 events to strengthen economic, political, and social cooperation under Russia’s leadership. Their big focus? Multilateralism, or working together as equal partners, to push for fairer global development and security for all countries—not just the most powerful ones.

The question remains: Will BRICS stay strong in the face of this Western pressure? And if so, what does that mean for the future of global power?

With Mozhin’s insights, it’s clear this isn’t just about international relations; it’s a power struggle shaping our world’s future. The West may be keeping a close watch on BRICS, but it’s uncertain if they’ll be able to stop this powerhouse alliance from growing even stronger.
