Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan disclosed on Thursday that the examination question paper was discovered to have been leaked on darknet, prompting the decision to cancel UGC-NET.
A portion of the internet that is inaccessible to search engines is known as the “dark web,” or “darknet.” Users mostly use cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin to make payments, making them largely anonymous and untraceable.
“Soon after it was clear that the UGC-NET question paper on darknet matches the original question paper of UGC-NET, we decided to cancel the examination,” Dharmendra Pradhan said, addressing a press conference today.
The University Grants Commission – National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) was canceled by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Wednesday, one day after it was administered, citing concerns that the “integrity of the examination may have been compromised”.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) obtained information on Wednesday night indicating that there may have been tampering with the exam that was administered on June 18. Consequently, the decision was made.
On Thursday, Dharmendra Pradhan restated the government’s pledge to guarantee a zero-error exam. According to him, the government is forming a high-level group to improve the NTA’s organizational framework and increase transparency.
