A strange and mysterious odor is coming from a Russian spacecraft that just docked at the International Space Station (ISS). The spacecraft, called Progress 90, arrived last weekend after launching on a Soyuz rocket from Kazakhstan. This cargo ship was carrying three tons of supplies for the astronauts aboard the ISS, including food and fuel.

When the hatch of the spacecraft was opened, the Russian cosmonauts aboard the ISS noticed something unusual. Not only did they smell an unexpected odor, but they also saw tiny droplets inside. The smell was described as “toxic” by the cosmonauts, although NASA didn’t go into details about the exact type of odor. After noticing this, the crew quickly closed the hatch to the Russian segment of the space station to keep it safe.
While the exact cause of the smell remains a mystery, it’s not the first time something like this has happened. In the past, Russian spacecraft have experienced leaks in space, which might explain the strange odor. However, NASA assured everyone that there’s no danger to the crew. The space station’s air scrubbers and sensors have been monitoring the air quality, and everything seems normal so far.
Despite the weird smell, everything else on the space station is running smoothly. The Progress 90 spacecraft will stay docked at the ISS for six months, bringing important supplies for the astronauts. It will later return to Earth to burn up in the atmosphere, carrying trash from the space station.
This isn’t the first time astronauts have encountered unusual smells in space. In fact, astronauts who have returned from spacewalks have reported odd and strong scents, such as the smell of gunpowder or metallic fumes. Even European astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti mentioned that there’s a peculiar odor inside the space station itself.
So, while the source of the strange odor on the Progress 90 remains unclear, NASA is keeping a close eye on the situation. For now, the astronauts on board continue their mission, working hard in space, while space enthusiasts eagerly wait for more updates on what’s really going on inside that mysterious spacecraft.
