Isak Andic, the man who built the famous Spanish fashion brand Mango, tragically passed away at 71. He died after falling from a cliff while hiking with his family near Barcelona on Saturday. Police reports say he slipped and fell over 150 meters (almost 500 feet) down a rocky area in the Montserrat caves.
His family immediately called for help around 12:30 pm. Emergency services quickly sent a helicopter and an ambulance to the scene, but sadly, when the medics arrived, they confirmed that Isak had already died.
Mango’s CEO, Toni Ruiz, shared a heartfelt message, expressing deep sadness at the unexpected loss of Isak Andic, who was the non-executive chairman and founder of the company.
Isak Andic was born in Turkey and moved to Catalonia, Spain, in the 1960s. He founded Mango in 1984, and under his leadership, the company grew into a global fashion powerhouse. Today, Mango has nearly 2,800 stores across the world and made an impressive €3.1 billion ($3.26 billion) in revenue last year. Forbes estimated his net worth at $4.5 billion, making him one of the richest people in Spain.
The regional leader of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, praised Isak Andic for his huge impact on the global fashion industry. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez also expressed his condolences, recognizing Isak’s incredible work in making Mango a world leader in fashion.
Mango, like its biggest competitor Zara, is known for quickly adapting to the latest trends while keeping prices affordable. The company doesn’t own any factories, instead outsourcing production to places like Turkey and Asia.
