The men’s 50km mass start event was cut to 30km for the Beijing Games, but it didn’t aid Finland’s Remi Lindholm, who required a heat pack at the finish to defrost out an extremely sensitive body part, reports New York Post.

Lindholm traversed the route in howling, cold winds for just under an hour and 16 minutes, causing his penis to freeze for the second time in a cross-country skiing competition, mirroring a comparable occurrence in Ruka, Finland the year before.

“You can guess which body part was a little bit frozen when I finished (the men’s Olympic 50km race) … it was one of the worst competitions I’ve been in. It was just about battling through,” he told Finnish media.

Due to concerns over frostbite, the race was postponed by an hour and trimmed by 20 kilometers on Saturday. Racers wore light suits and underlayers, and also plasters to shield their faces and ears, yet they were vulnerable.

Lindholm revealed that after the event, he applied a heat pack to attempt to defrost up his appendage.

“When the body parts started to warm up after the finish, the pain was unbearable,” he added.
