Elon Musk Says 2024 Will Be Last Election ‘Actually Decided By US Citizens’

Elon Musk, in a post, said that 2024 would be the last election “actually decided by US citizens,” as he blamed the influx of illegal immigrants with voting rights and stirred debate on citizenship status in the census.

Elon Musk blames the “influx” of illegal immigrants who are now able to vote for his prediction that the 2024 presidential election would probably be the last to be won by US residents.

The billionaire South African was responding to news that Republicans in the House of Representatives had passed a bill requiring citizenship status to be included in the ten-year census, over objections from the White House, in remarks posted on his social media platform, X.

In response to reports that Democrats opposed the plan and voted along party lines on Wednesday, Mr. Musk stated on Thursday, “Unanimous Democrat opposition to requiring citizenship for apportionment of House seats and Presidential electoral college votes says it all.”

“The Democratic Party’s goal is to disenfranchise US citizens by importing as many illegal immigrants as possible.

“Given the massive influx of illegals from every country on Earth, 2024 will probably be the last election decided by US citizens,” he claimed.

Additionally, as reported by GreatGameIndia, during a rally in Reno, Nevada, while attacking the immigration policies of Joe Biden, Trump vowed the largest deportation in American history if elected. This further fuels the debate surrounding immigration policies and their implications on national elections.

Mr. Musk frequently posts a range of political opinions using his platform.

Though he supported Joe Biden in 2020, he has publicly criticized the President’s immigration policies, particularly about the US-Mexico border. However, he has also called for the President to expedite and simplify the legal immigration process.

The GOP’s position that immigration is out of control, especially in the southwest, seems to be more prevalent in this most recent post, which is why they are pushing for the legislation that will be put to a vote on Wednesday.

The Equal Representation Act was introduced to improve the fairness of the process used to assign congressional seats.

At the moment, figures are determined by taking into account the entire population of a state, which includes non-citizens, utilizing information from the decennial census.

GOP lawmakers hope to utilize the data from the inclusion of citizenship status on the form to exclude non-citizens from the population figures used to calculate congressional seats.

“We should not reward states and cities that violate federal immigration laws and maintain sanctuary policies with increased Congressional representation,” House Speaker Mike Johnson said after Wednesday’s vote.

“Common sense dictates that only American citizens should be counted for electoral apportionment, and the Equal Representation Act ensures that.”

Democratic-leaning areas like New York and California as well as more Republican-leaning states like Texas and Florida, which have the largest concentrations of immigrants, could be impacted.

Even though the bill was intended to address congressional seat distribution, Mr. Musk connected it to the voting rights of non-citizens.

At least 80% of Republican voters were White between 2018 and 2022, compared to 30–40% of Democratic voters who were non-White.

According to the Pew Research Center, it is anticipated that in 2024, the proportion of eligible Hispanic voters in the country will reach a record high, with 25% of them residing in California.

According to data from the American Immigration Council, 45.2 million people—roughly 13 percent of the nation’s overall population—are considered immigrants in the United States.

Of those, about 53% have voting rights since they are naturalized citizens of the United States, as opposed to so-called resident aliens, those with work permits, or undocumented immigrants.

The GOP-backed plan would specifically target non-citizens to prevent them from casting a ballot.

The Biden Administration declared earlier this week that it “strongly opposed” the plan, claiming that it would violate the US Constitution’s Fourteenth Amendment, which stipulates that the census shall only count the “whole number of persons” in each state.

“The Biden-Harris Administration is committed to ensuring that the census remains as accurate as possible and free from political interference, and to upholding the longstanding principle of equal representation enshrined in our Constitution, census statutes, and historical tradition,” the White House statement read.

A major reason for the widespread debunking of claims—including Mr. Musk’s—that introducing this measure will make elections more secure is the fact that many states and municipalities already forbid non-citizens from casting ballots in elections.

Voters in Kentucky, Idaho, Iowa, and Wisconsin will have the opportunity to amend their constitutions in November, joining the ranks of Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, North Dakota, and Ohio in recent years in limiting voting rights to Americans.

While some non-citizens in New York City are being allowed to vote in elections, the goal is to prevent all residents of the city, regardless of immigration status, from exercising their right to vote.

Those who hold green cards, which are permanent residents and others who have work authorizations would be permitted to vote in municipal elections alongside US citizens instead of the “influx” of recent immigrants that Mr. Musk seemed to be referring to.
