An army statement said that a day after four soldiers were killed in a firing incident at the Bathinda military station, an army jawan committed suicide by shooting himself while on duty.

An Indian Army jawan reportedly shot himself dead at the Bathinda military station. The deceased, identified as Laghu Raj Shankar, was on duty when he shot himself with his rifle. He succumbed to the bullet injury. The Army said it seemed to be a suicide case.

This is the same military station where four jawans were killed in a shooting incident on Wednesday. The two incidents weren’t linked, an Army statement said.

IAF Officer Group Captain Suman Roy Chowdhury has been dismissed for shooting down his own chopper after the 2019 Balakot strike by a military court.
